Coffee And A Search

Lidner approached Matsuda and smiled, taking the coffee from him and allowing herself a small sip. It was certainly hot, but she didn’t mind the burn in her throat. “It’s wonderful, thank you.” A smile warmed her face as her thin lips revealed her white teeth. Pulling a map out of her pocket with her left hand, she presented it for Matsuda to grab. Blowing into her to-go cup, she began walking as she gestured for Matsuda to join her. The wind caught at her hair as she struggled to keep it from flying into her mouth, but the air was warm and she had no complaints. Chewing on her lips, she braved another sip of the hot coffee and was pleased to notice that she was getting used to its temperature.

“I marked the towns that we know Kiraenjeru was in based on where he killed people, and the pattern gives us reason to believe that Jane Doe could be in this very city here.” Lidner’s heels clicked on the sidewalk and her bag tapped the gun strapped to her waist with each step. She was hoping that she wouldn’t have to use her gun today though, and she was hoping even more that if she did have to pull darned thing out then it wouldn’t be till she was finished her coffee. How selfish of her. It would be nice if she met with Kiraenjeru face to face and could shoot him, but she doubted that would happen. Kiraenjeru wanted the body to be found. Whoever the killer was wouldn’t want to be caught with it.

“W-well, don’t thank me! Thank the coffee shop! They made the coffee!” A pause. “…Oh, you meant thanks for buying you the coffee? It’s fine! Not a problem!” Matsuda gave his usual awkward laugh, rubbing the back of his and giving a sheepish smile. Clearly, the coffee hadn’t exactly made him wake up… blinking in surprise as a piece of paper was suddenly in front of his face, Matsuda scrabbled to grab it, a small drop of coffee flying off the lid and create a stain on the map. “Whoops…” No time to dwell on that, however. He had a map to study! After a few rotations he managed to get it the right way up, frowning at the spindly X’s that were drawn over some of the places detailed on it. “Well, if not, I guess we’re stuck, huh?” A fairly useless comment, but it was all he could think to say at the time.

As he walked behind Lidner Matsuda stared down at the map, narrowly avoiding bumping into the odd person or two as he did so. Eventually, he glanced up. “Well, if he - or she - wants the body to be found, they’ll have put it in an obvious place? But… where’s obvious here?” Matsdua looked around as if he was expecting the body to suddenly appear to him. “Like, strapped to a pole or something? Or obvious as in an obvious serial killer location like an abandoned warehouse?” He sighed, giving a small laugh. “Eh heh… I don’t really know what I’m saying…”

Coffee And A Search

Sighing to himself, Matsuda shuffled awkwardly on the corner of the busy street, trying to ignore the burning heat from the takeaway coffee cups he held in each hand. He really didn’t think Lidner was the sort of person to be late! Or… maybe he was just super early… a quick glance at his watch confirmed that. Ahhh, no! Why did he even buy takeaway coffee? He could have sat inside and waited for her! Then again, the idea was that they set off on this search, so coffee on the go it was. Humming to himself, Matsuda carefully took a sip from his, wincing as the hot drink burnt his tongue. “Owwwwwww!” Ignoring the questioning look of the person sat at a nearby table, Matsuda shook his head and gasped. Yep, definitly burnt. He’d failed to even judge the drink! If he couldn’t even do that, how was he meant to judge where they should be searching?!

It was a silly trail of thought to go down just because of a stupid drink, but Matsuda found himself wondering once again just how on Earth he’d managed to even survive the first instance of a Kira. He’d almost never even been put on the case in the first place - it was only thanks to Chief Yagami bringing him into that conference that he’d been introduced to L, etc, etc. And everyone knew how THAT case had come to a conclusion… wincing to himself, Matsuda took another drink, this time welcoming the distraction of the burning sensation. It was probably a good thing that he spotted Lidner at that moment, and nearly threw the coffee over his head as he raised an arm to wave, the cheerful mindset firmly back in place. “Hey!” A smile. “I got you a coffee to go… watch out, it’s hot…”
